The purpose of the NPS Railgun Lab is to develop strong ties to the research efforts at Dahlgren and NRL. By standing up the railgun lab at NPS the following goals can be accomplished: 1. Education for EDO’s and SWO’s on railgun technology, including hands on lab projects. 2. Timely thesis opportunities for students in the 533 (Combat Systems Science and Engineering), 570 (Mechanical Engineering), 580 (Systems Engineering), and 590 (Electronic Systems Engineering). 3. By adopting the basic design concepts currently in place, NPS will be able to add to the research efforts across several institutions in order to bring this weapon system to its full operational capabilities. |
