Summary | This research aims to refine the Optimized Transit Tool & Easy Reference (OTTER) program as an improved Transit Fuel Planner with the goal of improving surface ship fuel efficiency and increasing operational time on station. The program will undergo various improvements to the planning logic and interfaces in order to improve its value as an effective tool for reducing transit fuel consumption on surface ships. OTTER will be tested on a variety of different hull types to verify its calculations and to gather input from navigators and surface warfare officers (SWO) who will be using the tool in the field. Input from navigators and SWOs will be used to improve the interface, manual, and accuracy of the program, and identify additional features that would provide added value to the warfighter. At the conclusion of this project, OTTER will have a formal record of successful use on ships and will be ready for deployment across the fleet. |
