Summary Better data integration is needed for communications and information interchange among diverse stovepiped ASW tactical systems, not just with each other and but also with complementary modeling and simulation (M&S) systems. NPS has extensive experience in the construction and integration of Extensible Markup Language (XML) languages for a variety of technical and tactical applications.
In order to support the ASW Community of Interest (COI) program and ASW data-modeling efforts to establish coherent messaging and battlespace-visualization capabilities for network-centric undersea warfare, NPS will continue to participate and provide technical support for the ASW COI Data Management Working Group (originally established as the USW-xml Working Group).
Partners from government, industry and academia perform this effort in close collaboration.
Recent NPS work in multiple related arenas will be compared to current ASW COI progress and plans. NPS will attend the twice-annual NDIA Undersea Warfare Symposium in Groton CT September 2014 to compare current challenges and progress by other parts of the ASW community. NPS will later provide a presentation and short report outlining multiple areas of potential value from NPS projects at the next ASW COI quarterly meeting.
Topics of interest include Wave Glider Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), Network-Optional Warfare (NOW), Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) compression of XML, Data-Driven Visualization using X3D Graphics Standard, ethical constraints for unmanned systems, and Open Systems Architecture (OSA) issues.
