Summary |
The major focus of the proposed research is on developing innovative operational and computation models for rapid detection, interdiction, and expert reachback. The models would employ ubiquitously networked formations of surface, ground, and aerial unmanned systems in support of US and partners conducting WMD focused Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO). The goal is to significantly advance capabilities for integrated detection and interdiction of maritime transfers of illicit materials. It is based on the synergy between ad hoc, mobile, network-enabled groups of unmanned systems/platforms. Experimentation would include such systems as long-endurance early surveillance Unmanned Buoy Systems (UBS), fast Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV), rotorcraft-type Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs). The proposed research will result in unique lessons learned, new concepts of operation and computational models, which would enhance MIO capabilities through the employment of ubiquitously networked unmanned systems. |
