Summary |
Data Science has emerged as an area critical to the mission of the Navy and the Dept of Defense because of the central role it plays in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, talent management, cyber-security and logistics functional areas. NAVAIR desires to create a data-savvy workforce. To that end, leaders at NAVAIR partnered with NPS to provide the venue for the FY16/17/18 NAVAIR Data Challenge. NAVAIR desires to expand the relationship with NPS to encompass data science education activities. NPS is uniquely positioned to support NAVAIR with an interdisciplinary team approach to data science education. The NPS Data Science Certificate and Short Course programs are designed to enhance the professional and technical abilities of NAVAIR employees in data analysis and big data techniques. They will also raise the level of awareness among NAVAIR leaders in different functional areas about the potential benefits (and limitations) of data science in facilitating data-driven decisions. Delivery of courses will include Introduction to data munging, feature engineering; Modeling process, modeling techniques (I); Modeling techniques (II), performance evaluation, model selection; Visualization and wrap up. |
