Summary | To develop three-dimensional fluid dynamics models for use in weather prediction. These new models will be designed to scale on standard massively parallel processing computers as well as on large systems comprised of graphics processing units. The models will be designed to yield highly accurate solutions while performing efficiently on the newest computer architectures. The models that we propose to build are based on the compressible Navier-Stokes equations for stratified flow with Coriolis and water vapor, condensation, and precipitation included. The methods that we will use to build these models are spectral element and discontinuous Galerkin methods in space, and explicit, semi-implicit, and fully implicit in time. Finally, the models will use dynamically adaptive grids. |
