Summary Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), and Long Term Evolution (LTE) are becoming the de facto standards for Hot Spot and cellular communications abroad. Recently, the IEEE also proposed an open standard for Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRAN) with cognitive radio (CR) capability. The above three open standards can be slightly modified to provide an additional layer of cyber security at the Physical Layer. We have made a preliminary investigation of this modification and believe that it may already be employed by foreign entities to defend their networks and hence make infiltration/exploitation into their systems much more difficult. We will conduct research on cellular communications open standards with an emphasis on identifying parameters needed for enhanced exploitation techniques.
