Summary The objective of the project at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is to develop and validate atmosphere compensation techniques that are robust and responsive to relevant atmospheric conditions. The focus of the research is on the development of atmospheric compensation techniques for deep turbulence conditions commonly observed in many high energy laser propagation scenarios. Under this project, NPS will investigate advanced adaptive optics approaches for deep turbulence and evaluate the promising techniques using the laboratory adaptive optics testbed. NPS will also investigate approaches for mitigation of atmospheric turbulence effects in conjunction with adaptive optics for further enhancement of imaging systems of the high energy laser systems. Scientific principles, laboratory experiments, and principles of testbed design will be shared with a project members wherever feasible.
