Summary | The proposed one-year research effort is to explore the feasibility of an assessment framework supported by artificial intelligence (AI) related analytical methods to develop, review and re-design inter and multidisciplinary education programs, curricula, and courses to adapt the education offerings to current and emerging Navy and Marine Corps competencies requirements. The Department of the Navy (DON) recognized the need for realignment of their education programs and curricula to prepare Navy leaders and high-end warfighters for joint and combined operations, requiring that the Naval Education Enterprise (NEE) constantly creates and updates its education programs to efficiently comply with education requirements. During the course of this research, we will collect and analyze institutional requirements, warfighter skill requirements, Naval subspeciality codes, Core Skill Requirements (CSRs), Education Skills Requirements (ESRs) and corelate them with degree and certificate, program and curricula, resulting in the creation of an outcomes-based education (OBE) relationship model. We will study, explore, and analyze the benefits, drawbacks and feasibility of potential AI solutions, their integration in the framework and the necessary supporting structures. We will select AI related analytical methods that maximize strategic insights into required competencies for education program decision-making and requirements definition. At the completion of the research, a report will provide a validated set of technical requirements for the framework and a sustained strategy to conduct education program right-sizing, realignment, development, review and assessment that is responsive to new and evolving demands and expectations. |
