Summary | A newly developed IR sensing technology will be applied to a static launch firing of a Mk74-power ejections chamber. The data will provide a significantly higher level of fidelity for interpreting the actual performance of the gas generator component of the launcher system. The new system will rely on a combination of conventional pressure transducers and newly developed spectroscopic approaches to characterize the true enthalpy flux (work capability) of the gas generator output to the stand pipe components. Although conventional transducers can be used to approximate the performance of the gas generator units, a combination of pressure, temperature, and combustion species are truly needed for accurate performance determination. The value added by implementing such technology is that modeling efforts can be validated by having access to a significantly larger database of thermodynamic properties at multiple component interfaces rather than making assumptions along the flow path which are derived from one location. |
