Summary | Operability concerns in Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) systems required an understanding of what geometry characteristics should be rigidly controlled while allowing others to be flexible in order to achieve the system design requirements, notably packaging and thrust density specifications. Operating an RDE with both gaseous and liquid fuel systems, the geometrical/gas dynamic conditions required to promote operability will be the focus of this research effort. Combustor geometries will be evaluated over an expected range of thermodynamic engine inlet conditions of interest to the sponsor. The results will be used to guide future injector and engine designs. |
