Summary The US Navy submarines currently do not have the capability to obtain in situ or remotely sensed meteorological conditions that allow characterization of the electromagnetic wave propagation in the lowest layers of the atmosphere immediately above the submarine. To develop such capability, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWC Newport) recently awarded two SBIR projects, both developing meteorological sampling capabilities from submarine deployable systems. The objectives of this proposed effort is to act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in meteorology to review the technical design of the systems and provide feedbacks to NUWC with regards to meteorological measurements and modeling as it pertains to submarine related electromagnetic (EM) propagation experiments.
