Summary |
Influenza transmission poses a significant threat to military readiness. DoD influenza surveillance programs compile and monitor electronic clinical data to identify Influenza-like illness trends that may require implementation control measures. The collaborators will evaluate the representativeness of CDC influenza laboratory surveillance data, develop a statistical tool to guide state-level laboratory sampling strategies and develop recommendations for modifying the national laboratory-based influenza surveillance system to improve the power and representativeness of lab surveillance data. University of Texas at Austin's Dr. Lauren Meyers brings expertise in the field of mathematical epidemiology. She has designed network-based mathematical methods to study the complexity of disease transmission, human behavior and the evolution of dangerous microbes. Naval Postgraduate School's Dr. Dimitrov specializes in applying network modeling and stochastic combinatorial optimization to disease control and security. |
