Sponsor | Office of Naval Research (Navy) |
Summary | The objective of this project is to procure a deformable with high actuator spatial density, 2 inch in diameter with more than 300 actuators and integrate it into HBCRT. The integration of the deformable mirror onto HBCRT will allow NPS faculty and students (DoD/Navy officer) to perform research in the correction of HEL beam and target image aberrations due to deep turbulence. The HBCRT will also be integrated into NPS courses to educate students. The estimated cost for the DM is $445 K. NPS is getting research support from DoD/ONR in this area. However, the current and projected funding cannot support purchasing of this expensive equipment. The DM will not only enhance research in deep turbulence for NPS faculty and students but is also important for DoD missions using HEL by increasing range and performance. NPS students will become familiar with this new weapon system and provide leadership in the development and operation. |
