Summary The purpose of this event is to deliver a United Nations Logistics Officer Course (in July 2017), designed to prepare national-level training peacekeeping training center cadre to deliver United nations approved logistics training, in support of national pre-deployment training for on-going United Nations peacekeeping missions and to train prospective UN Logistics Officers. This course (MASL 279379) is regularly conducted by CCMR throughout the Asia-Pacific area. This training was coordinated and agreed upon bilaterally by the US and the Philippines governments during the Bilateral Defense Discussions.
If this course does not occur it would diminish the Philippines' capacity to train future deploying peacekeepers, specifically, logistics officers, selected to serve in UN Peacekeeping Missions and may negatively affect future US-PHL cooperation. The Philippines is currently a growing contributor to peacekeeping missions to UN Missions worldwide. There is potential that failure to support this training could adversely impact force generation for potential new UN missions or extend already deployed contingents' logistics personnel in place due to inadequately trained replacements available.
The course is pre-coordinated in detail and supported by the JUSMAG Philippines, US Embassy in Manila, USPACOM staff and the Center For Civil-Military Relations, Naval Postgraduate School.
