Summary Collaborators will research mesh network technologies and applications in littoral operations. This includes examination of mesh networking technologies in the context of strategy, policy, operations, tactics and technologies in the presence of rising systemic complexity associated with distributed lethality in the littorals. Cooperative work will explore potential for operational employment of naval mesh networking technology both in the Baltic and other near shore regions in the South China Sea with archipelagic geographies (e.g. Indonesia, Philippines) This research will build upon work done by Dr. Alex Bordetsky, Naval Postgraduate School that seeks to answer the following research questions:
1. What are the implications of tactical network management systems in littoral operations and what unique real time data and maneuverable sensor capabilities do network managers need to support these tactical-level wireless mesh networks?
2. What opportunities can wireless mesh network technologies advance in the integration of onboard and remote sensors with small and large surface combatant, non-traditional platforms (UAVs, UUVs, UGVs swimmers) in the littoral environment?
