Back Energy Systems Technology Evaluations Program (ESTEP)

Fiscal Year 2019
Division Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science
Department Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering
Investigator(s) Gannon, Anthony J.
Pollman, Anthony G.
Sponsor Office of Naval Research (Navy)
Summary The ESTEP program aims to educate the Naval Workforce through practical implementation of new and nascent technologies to reduce the cost and increase the security and resilience of energy to United States Naval facilities. This exposes thesis students to relevant research in the critical field of renewable energy. In addition, it allows the faculty to be aware of the state-of-the-art in energy technologies.
Each project is designed to investigate a particular technology. This can be in a number of ways, the most basic is an evaluation with a project design for the next phase of the work. More mature projects aim to purchase a particular piece of equipment that is usually commercially available and evaluate in a real world setting. Analysis and simulation tools are also part of the program.
