Back Shortest-Time Maneuver Performance for a Class of Satellite Systems

Summary The proposed effort is directed at performing a simulation study and analysis of a new "shortest-time maneuver (STM)" generation for a typical half ton class mini-satellites. The STM is a ground-tested, flight-proven concept; however, its design depends upon the specifics of the satellite system such as its inertia properties, actuator capabilities, operational constraints, subsystem constraints etc. Two momentum control systems that are of interest to the sponsor will be examined as part of the proposed work. The first is a typical 4-CMG pyramid and the second is an array of 4 reaction wheels. Results of this effort will lead to the development of agility volumes for the spacecraft configurations of interest. Performance improvements over conventional control algorithms will also be demonstrated via numerical simulations for selected maneuvering scenarios.
