Summary | We will apply advanced analytical l techniques to study the nanoparticles that are produced with the recently discovered technique, laser-driven hydrothermal processing [LDHP) I. This technique directs modest-energy laser pulses onto the surface of refractory materials that are submerged in water or aqueous solutions in order to comminute [pulverize] these materials. There is preliminary evidence for LDHP that there is recrystallization and purification of the Si02 component of silicate materials, as a result of transient dissolution of these materials by the LDHP. Such incongruent removal of material has significant implications for the primary application of LDHP, which is the comminution of debris and rubble, serving as the first step in nuclear forensic analysis |
