Summary |
The purpose of this event is to deliver a Cambodia United Nations Staff Officers Course (UNSOC) in June, 2017, designed to prepare potential staff officers in the roles and responsibilities of military staff supporting the military component of deployed UN peacekeeping missions. This training was coordinated and agreed upon bilaterally by the US and Cambodia governments during the Bilateral Defense Discussions. If this course does not occur it would diminish Cambodia’s capacity to train future deploying peacekeepers, and specifically, peacekeeping staff officers. This would negatively affect future US-Cambodia cooperation. There is potential that failure to support this training could adversely impact force generation for potential new UN missions or extend already deployed staff officers in place due to inadequate replacements available. The course is pre-coordinated in detail and supported by the US Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and United States Pacific Command. |
