Summary Global ECCOs mission is to build and strengthen the Combating Terrorism Fellowship Program's (CTFP) global alumni network of Combating Terrorism (CbT) experts and practitioners through innovative and engaging technologies and techniques that both enable and encourage collaborative partnership between individuals, nations, organizations, and cultures. These include an online journal, the Combating Terrorism Exchange (CTX); strategic war-gaming exercises and applications; and an original and ongoing collection of oral histories from operators in the war on terrorism, all of which are hosted on the password protected GlobalECCO.org website. In addition, ECCO enhances the effectiveness of CTFP education and continuing engagement programs and supports the overall goals of the CTFP. This online community, and extended resources, are hosted by the Naval Postgraduate School and are accessible to defense and security professionals worldwide, including from locations with limited bandwidth and computing capabilities.
The objective of this project is to nurture an online community and amplify the capacity-building impact of the CTFP's continuing engagement and education curriculum and foster ties between CbT professionals in partner nations through a web-based platform. "The CTFP…ECCO will allow DoD to reach a wider range of students in a more cost effective and resource-efficient manner while also responding to the ever-changing CbT environment." GlobalECCO.org hosts a variety of innovative, interactive, and collaborative modules including: the CTX journal, strategic game-applications, and a collection of oral histories from operators in the war on terror. The website itself facilitates the CTFP's goal of building and strengthening a global network of CbT experts and practitioners through social and professional networking capabilities such as blogs, messaging and instant messaging, open discussion forums, news sources and a searchable directory. Ultimately, GlobalECCO serves as a center for those activities that strengthen the CTFP network and reinforce the usefulness of CTFP education courses and alumni events.
