Summary | Very small satellites are becoming increasingly capable as they perform focused research objectives of national interest. In particular, using CubeSats to perform space situational awareness is a promising area for research and collaboration, given its importance in assuring the safety of our national assets in space. In support of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL's) space situational awareness (SSA) activities and as a continuation of previous collaborative work, we propose to work on the following tasks: support the integration, test, and flight operations of the SSA CubeSats. Boeing-built CubeSat buses have been integrated with LLNL optical payloads to better enable tracking and ephemeris improvement of satellites and space debris. In addition to building on the previous collaborative work between LLNL and NPS, this project also provides opportunities for thesis research for NPS students relevant to their space systems studies. |
