Summary | FEMA, as an agency of the Department of Homeland Security, has divided the U.S. into ten regions. The Pacific Region of FEMA, falls under the auspices of region IX, which includes Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Republic of Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Arizona, California and Nevada. The Pacific Region currently does not have a dedicated federal homeland security/FEMA capability for real time operations coordination, regional training coordination, or research and product development coordination that capitalizes on the unique geographic location and cultures, and because of the vast size, geographic isolation and cultural uniqueness, the Pacific Region is expected to be better served by having a separate DHS/FEMA regional entity coordinating homeland security activities. |
