Long Term Evolution (L TE) is an emerging technologies for high data rate mobile access. It was defined by the European Third Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) as a follow-on to the Universal Mobile Telephony System (UMTS) standard for third generation mobile devices. LTE is a leading contender for LTE mobile phone adoption. Many global telecommunications providers actively support LTE. The objective of this new research is to develop signal analysis and precision geolocation techniques for LTE signals. Geolocation will be based on control messages used by
LTE basestations and subscribers. This will be done through analysis of traditional geolocation techniques and modification of the computational constraints to incorporate the LTE control information. This approach leverages prior knowledge of mobile phone geolocation with new knowledge of the LTE signal. Validation will be conducted through simulation of LTE intercept under a variety of conditions.
