Summary | The proposed research investigates a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) mimicking the directionally sensitive aural system of the Ormia ochracea fly and its extraordinary directional sensitivity. This research could lead to a cheap, reliable, accurate, networked directional sound sensor that could be deployed on fixed structures, vehicles on land, sea, air, and undersea, and even individuals. Such a sensor could aid in sniper detection among many other potential applications. |
