Summary | Satellites with disparate sensors (e.g. cameras, RF transmitters, communication receivers, lasers etc.) in different orbits are required to collect data from a large global set of targets on Earth. The number of targets could be of the order of millions. Some of these targets may be in motion and their location might be uncertain or camouflaged with respect to the modality of a given sensor. The overall objective is to determine a system-wide optimal plan and schedule for collecting data. The objective function for the multi-satellite multi-sensor system is the “science return” for NASA missions and “intelligence value” for DoD missions. Developing an end-to-end mathematical model for this problem, that accounts for all the real-world complexities, is part of the proposed problem space. |
