Summary |
The Marine Corps is currently using or in the process of developing several simulation models in support of key logistics decisions. Of particular interest are support of model development tied to reset and total life cycle management (TLCM). Reset is the process of restoring combat capability to pre- Global War on Terror (GWOT) conditions, which involves equipment procurement TLCM is the formal process to identify, analyze, and implement synergistic "cradle to grave" solutions that optimize the acquisition/logistics chain across the Marine Corps in support of the Operating Forces. NPS's expertise in the design and analysis of large-scale simulation experiments will be leveraged to examine one or more of these models, for purposes of providing an objective assessment of the models' strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. These may include instances where different approaches to modeling (e.g., modern process- and object-oriented paradigms) or analysis (e.g., simulation-specific statistical methods for enhanced accuracy and precision) could leverage these models to provide more insight to LX about potential risks and trade-offs associated with different strategic, operational, or tactical decisions-and do so in a timely manner. NPS SEED Center personnel have extensive knowledge and experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis in both the military and industrial domains, and are uniquely positioned to begin to construct and document VV&A guidelines for military logistics problems. |
