Summary Combat XXI is a high-resolution combat simulation that can be used to examine the effects of changes in equipment or tactics on measurements regarding the events in battle. Output from the simulation is captured in text logs; depending on settings supplied by the user, these logs can number in the dozens and be substantial in size. Users need to ability not only to run the model with settings relevant to their problem, but to extract the relevant measures of effectiveness and use those extracted values to characterize the success of their simulated initiatives. The expertise gained in handling large masses of heterogeneous text data will be valuable in other TRAC-Monterey projects.
