Summary	The purpose of this event is to deliver a Peacekeeping Operations Contingent Commanders Course (in July 2017), designed to prepare potential commanders in the roles and responsibilities of contingent commanders, battalion commanders and sector commanders in complex peacekeeping operations for UN and other multinational operations. This course (MASL 279085) is regularly conducted by CCMR throughout the Asia-Pacific area. This training was coordinated and agreed upon bilaterally by the US and Japanese governments during the Bilateral Defense Discussions. If this course does not occur it would diminish Japan’s capacity to train future deploying peacekeepers, specifically peacekeeping contingent commanders, to serve in UN Peacekeeping Missions and may negatively affect future US-JPN cooperation. Japan is currently the number two contributor of peacekeeping funding to UN Missions worldwide. There is potential that failure to support this training could adversely impact force generation for potential new UN missions or extend already deployed contingents in place due to inadequate replacements available. The course is pre-coordinated in detail and supported by the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan and the Center For Civil-Military Relations, Naval Postgraduate School.
