Summary Measurement and test techniques that have been developed during steam ingestion tests on a transonic fan stage will be used to determine the effect of inlet distortion on a scaled version of the F135 (and XTE-67/A1 demo engine) first stage fan. This project will determine the effect of steam ingestion on the stall margin of fan typical of a modern military engine, it will also quantify the performance of such a fan.
The collaboration with Pratt and Whitney on this project will address both these issues. The deliverables will be an interim report on the design of the scaled stage to be housed in the transonic compressor rig and a final report on the performance measurements of the stage.
