Summary | The proposed work is in collaboration with the research team at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln (UNL). The UNL team has been working on developing superhydrophobic metallic surfaces using a femtosecond laser surface processing technique. The present work is to measure reduction in the frictional drag force resulting from the superhydrophobic surface as compared to an unprocessed reference material. Any potential degradation and damage in plastron is to be observed and explained for prevention, if occurring. Furthermore, potential biofouling and corrosion of the processed surfaces in a seawater environment are to be investigated along with their effects on the frictional drag. |
