Summary | The Military Departments have made significant progress in developing high quality Foreign Area Officer (FAO) programs. However, the Department of Defense (DoD) 2007 Annual FAO Report revealed there were no formal joint training and education programs for FAOs to sustain the professional development of language skills and regional expertise. A dedicated, standardized, and comprehensive FAO sustainment and development program was needed to satisfy DoD requirements and ensure difficult to acquire language skills and regional expertise are enhanced during the careers of FAOs from all Services. The creation of the JFSSPP in accordance with USD (P&R) goals and directives has met DoD requirements by providing FAOs valuable, advanced education and professional opportunities. |
