Summary This is a research proposal for the continuation of the research to design, implement and test a new substantial modification of an existing spacecraft hardware-in-the-loop test-bed in order to enable the emulation in a laboratory environment of the autonomous optimal control of a spacecraft in the presence of physically emulated orbital dynamics effects.
The first phase of the effort, successfully completed in December 2018, focused on the hardware system design, selection and procurement. Furthermore, numerical simulations to evaluate the feasibility of the concept were successfully conducted.
The second phase of the project, which is the subject of this proposal, will include the integration of the hardware system into a fully operational prototype, the experimental assessment of the accuracy of emulation of the orbital dynamics and the hardware-in-the-loop testing of prototype autonomous optimal spacecraft maneuvering.
