Summary | The deployment of search effort has been a topic of Naval Operations Research since WWII, but optimal solutions-based on realistic sensor models and nonlinear vehicle dynamics-were not possible until recently. Thanks to research out of NPS in the last five years, however, this is no longer a barrier. We can now numerically compute vehicle trajectories which optimize detection probabilities given multiple, cooperative UxVs, and detailed heterogeneous vehicle dynamics and sensor characteristics. Our proposal is to develop a mission planning tool for search deployment unmanned underwater or surface vehicles which incorporates modern computational advances to provide greater utility for the Mine Countermeasure community. |
