Summary | The Minotaur mission system is being acquired by the Navy for integration on the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and MH-60R Seahawk maritime helicopter. Minotaur integrates sensors from Poseidon and Seahawk into a comprehensive, shared and networked picture. Minotaur offers significant increases in speed, accuracy and memory capacity over legacy, largely manual data fusion systems. However, the effects of Minotaur at the mission level are unclear since, unlike a traditional kinetic effector (e.g. sensor, weapon), the impact of â¿¿betterâ¿ data fusion on aircrew Situational Awareness (SA) is not readily captured within existing mission-level simulations such as Naval Simulation System (NSS). In addition, there are significant questions on the how Minotaur may directly or indirectly support the antisubmarine warfare (ASW) mission. |
