Fiscal Year | 2017 |
Division | School of International Graduate Studies |
Department | National Security Affairs |
Investigator(s) | Kapur, Samir P. |
Sponsor | Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DoD) |
Summary | This set of research projects, proposed to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), deepen our understanding of important international actors in the strategic realm. Two projects seek to conduct strategic dialogues with China and India to create better understanding of ongoing programs, changes to strategy and doctrine, improve transparency, and advance relations through direct engagement. The third project seeks to illuminate Iranian nuclear motivations and nuclear strategic decision-making in the wake of recent diplomacy and in the context of upcoming presidential elections there. Each addresses a core area of national security interest for the US, and includes important maritime dimensions. They will develop over a two-year period and will involve students where possible, through thesis writing and direct participation. All projects will culminate in final findings reports widely disseminated across the interagency (OPNAV, OSD-P, State, DOE-NNSA, and of course DTRA) and published through the Center on Contemporary Conflict and elsewhere where possible. |
