The CORE Lab will facilitate a total or fourteen (14) events starting in January 2019. This will be for SNA training events (10) that will be a mix of in house and MTT’s. We will also hold 4, follow up sessions with students who are using and applying SNA consistently in criminal investigations. Trainings will be four-day outreach and education events at both NPS and at their regional training centers. Each class will have no more than 24 students. Participant travel and lodging will be arranged by the sponsor. The participants will be required to complete pre-requisite, self-study course designed to familiarize students with basic SNA terms and concepts. The Distance Learning course titled “Introduction to Social Network Analysis” is located at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security website at https://www.chds.us/c/academic-programs/self-study-courses. Students will need to sign up for an account and will have access to all of the resources offered on the CHDS website. The CORE Lab SNA for LE curriculum consists of a daily mixture of interactive briefs that introduce participants to SNA theory and application, vignettes on social media and SNA, lab exercises that apply a wide range of SNA techniques to data sets and readings. It will end with final exercise presented by the participants and will fuse theory and techniques. The proposed schedule for the four-day training (Tuesday to Friday) is as follows: - Day 1 (0900-1600) Theory and Methods of SNA - Day 2 (0900-1600) Introduction to the ORA software package and project development - Day 3 (0900-1600) Four Metric Family Instructions and ORA Lab Completion - Day 4 (0900-1300) Presentation of Final Projects and Review The students will be responsible to bring their own laptop and datasets. The students will be required to install free software provided by the CORE Lab (ORA v2.3.6) onto the laptop and may need administrative rights to do so. |
