Back Lab for Application Design on CANES and the Cloud

Fiscal Year 2020
Division Graduate School of Operational & Information Sciences
Department Computer Science
Investigator(s) Luqi
Sponsor Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (Navy)
Summary Proposed work will create lab infrastructure that supports both instruction and research related to CANES/ACS. The lab will enable the course SW4555 Engineering Network Centric Systems to focus on developing an application at NPS using a prototype of Navy's CANES/ACS hosted on the Amazon AWS government cloud. Currently, Fleet Cyber Command (FCC)/Commander 10th Fleet (C10F) Network Operations Centers (NOCs), Maritime Operations Centers (MOCs), and navy units do not have a coherent way to understand NetOps, and responses to events depend on tedious human analysis and voice communication. Research enabled by CANES/ACS prototype will explore the application of network automation and creative student ideas to enhance the tools available to the fleet in solving unique problems in fleet operations.
