Summary | Our research will identify the individual predictors of officer and enlisted promotions, compare the predictors across Navy communities/ratings, and build a prediction model that accounts for differences by Navy communities/ratings. We will use individual socio-demographic information, as well as longitudinal data on job sequences, types, and performance evaluations, we will use the model to estimate different counterfactuals that can assist and improve on the human and community/rating-based evaluation system. We will provide a summary of trends in the promotion and attrition of enlisted sailors and officers. Our data driven approach will help individual sailors as they progress in their careers and Navy promotion boards to identify the best and fully qualified sailor for each rank and position. |
