Summary | The Marines desire to leverage automation in their next family of vertical takeoff and land (VTOL) aircraft, meaning they must define the human-machine teaming interactions. This broadened operating approach necessitates understanding the various human machine teaming interdependent interactions be completely delineated, as well as other key factors better defined. NPS is well positioned to assist. This research focuses on furthering the potential capabilities of the VTOL Family of Systems (FoS) by executing follow on interdependence analyses (IA), including using the new IA tool, better defining automation and autonomy in the context of USMC operations, and enhancing the capabilities of the living lab concept. Finally, the sponsor desires a technical survey of existing and new DARPA and ONR projects that might accelerate the VTOL FOS, and a suggested process that efficiently sorts out marketing hype from actual capability. |
