Summary |
Wireless and cellular technologies offer opportunities to extend voice and data communications while limiting or mitigating structural modifications. Emerging cellular capabilities, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE), are being evaluated to support internship communications as part of a pilot study being conducted by NAVAIR for the Kearsage ARG. This study considers the utility of emerging wireless communications as a means of leveraging broadband communications aboard ship to support data and voice communications to amphibious assault assets prior to debarkation from the well-deck. - What communications gaps might be filled, and under what constraints, by current and emerging COTS/GOTS wireless and cellular capabilities? - What intra-ARG communications shortfalls currently impact course-of-action options? - What are suitable use cases for CTS/GOTS wireless and cellular capabilities in support of maneuver operations? - Develop a prototype application and field experiment to demonstrate the capabilities proposed under this effort. |
