Summary | Richard A. Kimmel (NPS/IS Department) was selected for the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Science & Technology (S&T) Advisor program in FY05 and will remain detailed to Commander Third Fleet (C3F), San Diego, CA through CY06. Under this program S&T advisors remain attached to their home command and ONR funds this billet directly to the advisors home command. Science & Technology Advisors are Civilian scientists and engineers selected through a nationwide competition from the naval technical community to participate in this career development tour. They serve as the representative of the Commander on interactions with S&T organizations in government, academia, and industry. They assist and advise the host command in the identification of needs that have a critical impact on combat readiness. They also support the Department of Navy (DoN) S&T and R&D communities to provide rapid technology insertion, long-term investment leverage, and surge capability in support of high priority fleet/Force issues. The Science Advisors are concerned with programs relating to all aspects of naval warfare. |
