Summary The primary question to be answered: What are the relevant capabilities of Oracle WebCenter and Business Intelligence (BI) that map to the decision making requirements in GCSS-MC and how well can they use/access existing logistics databases? The deliverable will be a virtual WebCenter prototype including an integrated BI that supports the current C4 architecture. The system will be evaluated in terms of both unstructured and structured logistics decisions at the MEU level. The analytics available to WebCenter and BI "out of the box" will be evaluated in terms of their potential usefulness to decision making. Two or more thesis students is desired. Other issues:
- Identify and refine the scope of the study and prototype based on time and budget.
- Level of effort required to achieve each identified capability in a production environment.
- What decision support tools could be done better through WebCenter/BI (WC/BI) or what decision support tools do not currently exist but could be implemented through WC/BI?
- How well will a WC/BI based decision support system fit into existing systems and architecture?
- Security issues related to WebCenter/BI and the data it accesses.
- What are the types of unstructured data would benefit by using the collaboration tools of WebCenter?
- HR required to develop and maintain a system including complying with Information Assurance requirements.
- What capabilities are "out of the box" and which ones would have to be customized or created through the ADF (Application Development Framework)?
- The cost for developing custom applications to meet capabilities not met from "out of the box" with WebCenter and BI.
- Identify other potential uses for WebCenter and Oracle BI.
- Implementation of WC/BI: On system provided by the Marine Corps or a virtual system "provided by the researchers, Details and strategy will need to be worked out by both parties.
