Summary This project will assess the effectiveness of alternative watchstanding schedules to determine their effects on operational readiness throughout the US Naval forces. The study will focus on performance and alertness levels of Marines stationed at Embassy/Consulate security posts. We will also investigate the current stare of the Marine Corps Embassy Security Guard program and provide notional alternative work-rest schedules designed to mitigate stress and fatigue levels. The evaluation will be based on command climate surveys and current work practices across the program. A follow-on study will be designed to collect actual sleep and performance data from Marines Embassy Security guards in order to validate the recommended notional schedules.
