Summary | This proposal focuses on two related areas of technology development. The first is the development of deployable mechanisms for use on CubeSats, specifically deployable solar panels and a deployable boom. Second is the development of a simple, low-cost, attitude control subsystem. The intent is to do this development in a phased approach. This Phase I proposal sets reasonable goals that complement each other and the other CubeSat work being done at NPS. Phase II proposals will incorporate the results of this work into flight units and propose areas for follow-on research. Specifically of interest in the future is the development of solar array gimbal mechanisms to permit solar array sun tracking. This work is also consistent with NPS's educational mission and the emphasis on NPS student involvement will remain strong. |
