Summary Characterizing the acoustic signatures of steep bathymetric features is crucial to understanding passive broadband submarine sonar system performance and interpreting acoustic arrivals at low- and mid-frequencies in complex, highly variable environments. Energy associated with bathymetric features has the potential to affect submarine operations. This proposal includes a robust modeling effort through the development and implementation of 3D acoustic propagation models that can reliably predict anisotropic noise properties in the presence of spatially variable bathymetry and sound speed profiles.
