Back NPS Program on Counter Directed Energy Weapon (CDEW) Research

Fiscal Year 2011
Division Research & Sponsored Programs
Department Center for Decision, Risk, Controls & Signals Intelligence
Investigator(s) Sritharan, Sivaguru S.
Sponsor Office of Naval Research (Navy)
Summary The primary objectives of this effort are (1) to mentor postdoctoral fellows and Ph.D. students and to (2) develop and modify courses in CDEW research.
1. Professor James Luscombe (Physics), Professor Brett Borden (Physics) and NRC Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Jeremy Hughes will continue working the computational implementation of nonlinear materials (and negative index of refraction material studies) for partial or complete optical cloaking
2. Professor Hong Zhou (Applied Mathematics) and NRC Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Eric Choate will continue to seek strategies to minimize surface temperature rise due to laser heating by oscillatory or rotational movement of aerial plan forms.
3. NRC Senior Faculty Fellow Professor Mohsen Tadi will continue to develop the inverse methods to detect the laser location from scattering data from sensors. His focus will be in moving towards the main computational challenge of high frequency calculations. Research Professor Ramesh Kolar will support this research with high performance computing and also by devising numerical methods to accelerate the computational procedure for inverse problem simulation. The FY11 work will continue the current efforts that are underway.
