Summary	Are today's career officers more cynical than they were during previous periods? This may well be an impossible question to answer. Consequently, while I will examine officers' attitudes over the arc of previous conflicts. My intent is to not be comparative so much as use attitudes expressed toward previous adversaries, strategy, military effectiveness, etc. to raise questions about the nature of what one hears today.
