Summary | In our previous research effort, we had shown that there are several types of signals in which compressive sensing (CS) and other sub-Nyquist receivers actually fail to recover those signals. CS technique supposedly uses low sampling rate for large data set or high bandwidth signals. Unfortunately, this is only true for a special scenario: sparse signal or sparse data. For this reason, CS has yet to fulfill its promise. In fact, actual RF hardware CS sensors are NOT easily available. In our effort, we successfully developed a true low rate sampling hardware for high bandwidth signals. We call it the multiple low-rate sample (MLRS) receiver and does not need the resource-hungry CS techniques. We also proved out our MLRS technique with simulation software and demo-hardware sensor using field programmable gate array (FPGA) for signal processing. We have shown hardware demonstration at low or baseband frequencies using downconverted simulated radar cross section (RCS) of a military vehicle. In this work, we propose to develop high frequency RF extension and actual field experiments to validate the MLRS techniques on practical target vehicles (such as RCS signals). |
