Summary |
Adopting and relying on new technology depends on trust, which is affected by anticipated benefits from using the technology, and from real and perceived risk associated with its utilization. USVs are relatively new technology and are subject to the aforementioned trust and risk considerations. The objective of the proposed research is to develop a modeling framework that can quantify the relations between trust and risk in the context of employing USVs â¿¿ focusing on LUSV. There are many definition for â¿¿trustâ¿ in the social-science literature â¿¿ mostly among humans. The (relative) limited literature on trust in systems is focused on electronic information systems. In our context, paraphrasing (Pavlou 2003), trust is the belief that a LUSV will behave according to the expectation from it. Perceived risk is associated with trust and is defined (Warkentin et. al. 2002) as the subjective expectation of suffering a loss in pursuit of a desired outcome. Actual risk is more of a statistical concept, which, however, may be estimated by subjective probabilities. The three terms â¿¿ trust, perceived risk, and actual risk â¿¿ are important in evaluating the speed and effectiveness of adopting and utilizing LUSVs Building on existing literature on trust and risk, we will use a Bayesian approach to develop a formal model that dynamically updates the level of trust and the perception of risk associated with employing LUSV. The modeling framework will include instructions how to implement it in dynamic settings. Keywords: LUSV, Trust, Risk, modeling |
